  • Pirongia Forest Park (17,000 ha) is approximately 25 kilometres south-west of Hamilton and is made up of four separate land areas: the Mangakino Block, Te Rauamoa Block, Te Maunga 0 Karioi Block, and Pirongia.
  • The summit of Mt Pirongia is 959 metres; it is the highest mountain in the Waikato. Neighbouring Karioi is 756 metres.
  • The park contains the largest tract of unbroken native forest left in the Waikato.
  • At least 58 tree species, 44 different shrubs and 110 types of fern grow in the park.
  • The tallest known kahikatea in New Zealand (66.5 metres) grows on the flanks of Mt Pirongia.
