Sponsor’s Function

Rugby legend Colin Meads was special guest at a function hosted by the Society in April for sponsors of its pest control project on Mt Pirongia. This was a chance for the society to acknowledge the key role sponsors play for us. Certainly, without them the on-going work needed for the project would simply not be possible.

Certificates were presented at the Pirongia Forest Park Lodge function by Colin Meads to corporate and individual sponsors, and then everyone was treated to the kind of afternoon tea that rural communities are famous for.

Pirongia Te Aroaro o Kahu Restoration Society acknowledges the generous support of the Caversham Foundation for the sponsorship certificates, and the Pirongia Forest Park Lodge for the use of their facilities.

Sponsorship levels start at $30 per year for individuals and $70 for corporates, and a brochure detailing the options is available from our website.

Mangakaraa Extension
Our plans to extend the bait station grid by approximately 100ha for the Mangakaraa project are progressing well. Consultation is continuing and track cutting and establishment of the grid has begun. Of the $5,700 required to fund this work, $3,000 has already been received from Pub Charity. The outcome of another funding application is still awaited. So we are hopeful that all the funding will be to hand in time for the work to be completed for the coming spring.

Additional volunteers will be needed to help service these additional bait stations, so encourage your friends, family and workmates to join us. Visits to the bait stations are undertaken 3 times per year, with equipment and training provided by the society. It involves a commitment of only 4 hours on a Saturday morning, and includes a barbecue and social time, made possible by funding from Environment Waikato.
If you think you might be up for this, please contact Steve McClunie  (07) 8719 474 or email him.
